Pikes Peak is an ultra-prominent, 14,115-foot (4,302 m) mountain summit located in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, just west of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Known as "America's Mountain," it is the most visited mountain summit in North America. The peak famously inspired Katharine Lee Bates to write the lyrics to the patriotic anthem "America the Beautiful" after she experienced the panoramic views from its summit.

Colorado features some of the darkest skies and highest altitude stargazing locations in the United States, making it a premier destination to view and photograph the Milky Way. Because of its dry air and vast pockets of undeveloped mountain territory, the state is home to numerous officially designated International Dark Sky places.

This original acrylic painting "When Pike Swallowed the Sky" shows Pikes Peak painted where it is filled with a cool tone night sky scene and the space above them is painted black. This painting is on canvas and measures approximately 12 inches by 16 inches. This painting is a genuine, hand made creation.
